This compelling drama detailed the early 1950s crusade by CBS broadcast legend Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn) and his producer Fred Friendly (Clooney) to take down right-wing Senator Joseph McCarthy (R-Wisconsin), who with his malevolent lead attorney Roy Cohn (later Donald Trump's business adviser), used the Post- WW II Red Scare to launch a self-aggrandizing communist witch-hunt known as HUAC (The House Un-American Activities Committee), which sent many prominent citizens to prison, including the Hollywood Ten. The supporting cast includes Frank Langella, Jeff Daniels, Patricia Clark, Robert Downey, Jr., Tate Donovan, and Grant Heslov. Key historical characters like McCarthy. Cohn, Dwight Eisenhower, Robert F. Kennedy, Sen. John McClellan, Joseph Welch and Liberace play themselves via newsreel footage. It was nominated for 6 Academy Awards - Best Picture, Lead Actor (Strathairn), Director, Original Screenplay, Cinematography (Robert Elswit), and Art Direction.
